We frequently hear the question whether an organization such as ours can really achieve something constructively. The abolition of death penalty is a long-term goal, however, ALIVE does not only fight against death sentence globally, but at the same time supports those people who are living under such a sentence.

The support of convicts is one of the main targets that we are aiming for. Finding pen friends for death row inmates, establishing small homepages for the inmates in order to focus public’s attention on their fate are parts of our work within the Voices From Inside, as well as the Prisoner's Newsletter that is meant to bring the inmates a little alternation to their isolated all-day-life and also provide them some education. The newsletter is also meant to encourage the inmates to get involved, because this newsletters is mainly from prisoners for prisoners, they can publish their poetry, articles, short-stories, drawing etc. there.

In 2003 ALIVE has published a poetry book with poems of prisoners of different death rows in the US. These kind of projects are especially important to us, because they encourage the prisoners to get active and therefore giving them something meaningful to do.

In very extreme cases ALIVE supports single inmates with a campaign.

The abolition of death penalty case by case is obviously a hard fight. In order to save a convicted person’s life it is essential to interfere as early as possible. Once all legal opportunities are exhausted there hardly remains a chance to do something about the case. Convicted basically need competent lawyers, and this in return requires money and a lot of commitment.

Many of our members have friends on death row and as a result relive all ups and downs of their protégés. We support each other in times of sorrow. Support is also given when planning visits in prison and other, similar things that need organization.

We want to offer help for victims of violent crimes. Therefore we are always available for a conversation, and we will do the best we can in order to help. It is very important for ALIVE e.V. to give victims a voice.
