Hello,

My name is Karl and I am a condemned man on Texas Death Row. I am 36 years old, a big gay with blue eyes and a big smile. I am the oldest of nine but, sadly, I’m not close with much of my family. I have been on Texas death row for almost ten years now. I am looking for a friend and I hope you will write. My post is like most men on the row- a troubled and abusive childhood- but by the grace of God and with the help of many good friends, I left behind that criminal, insane lifestyle; in late 1991, I quit drinking and drugs, and other self destructive habit, and lived reasonably responsible and happy for the first time in my life; that was my last five years of freedom.

The changes I began have matured during these challenging - often difficult - years of incarceration.

There is so much of life that I long for; often it seems I miss the simple things most terribly. Yet I try not to be bitter. I live as ”free” as I can, and have learned to cherish the small joys my life has to offer; most of all, writing letters and friends.

I am looking for friendship, nothing more and nothing less.

I love to read, mostly fiction but also poetry, philosophy, spirituality.

I love music, mostly rock’n roll but I listen so all kinds. I love Mother Nature and miss her dearly - I dabble in water-colors and drawing to show my appreciation and fill that longing….

I’m also interested in cooking (I collect recipes), computers and technology, magic and medieval times, and diverse social and environmental issues.

I am glad to write about almost anything, and am looking for a friend with an open mind and heart. Anything you want to know or talk about, feel free to ask. Or tell me about yourself- after all, that’s what friends are for. There is a lot more to say, but this is just a beginning - I hope to hear from you soon!

Sincere Respects,

Karl Chamberlain

Favorite “clean” joke ;-)

An Englishman, Irishman and German all walk into a bar and order a pint of Lager. As soon as the get their beer, three flies fall into each pint!

The Englishman pushes his pint away in disgust. The Irishman calmly picks out the fly, and then drinks as if nothing happened - but the German plucks the fly out and holds it over the beer hollering: “I saw you take a drink! Cough it up! Cough it up! “

Watch of Green

# 142 by Karl Chamberlain

I have but one patch of green in my life.
It is a verdant vibrant green
that can bee seen through the cruel cross hatches
of a chain link fence, topped with concertina wire.

It is such a lush and luxurious green
that one barely notices
The fading bed of browns and yellows
that rest beneath the bright green blades,
nor the hole that is slightly off-center
when the grass refuses to grow.
Indeed, one rejoices with the sight of a blooming
daisy, forgetting that it is but a weed.

I have but one patch green in my life,
but they say I have none,
None in my life, nor my soul.
Indeed, that may be true,
if life can be held back by their fence.
