Hi,

My name is Ruben Gutierrez and I am currently a inmate here on Texas Death Row. Upon reading this, you'll have a brief glimps into prison life and realize, just because I am here, I'm no different than you. So please take the time to read this and perhaps it will open your eyes to this fact and maybe you'll be willing to write me...

         11 years of social deprivation, and de-humanization..
         11 years of being systematically opressed, de-graded and thoroughly traumatized...
         11 years of living in solitary confinement, inside a single cage slightly smaller than the smallest room in your house.

This has been my life for the past 11 years. I sound demented and deranged, don't I? Better yet, insane and monstrous, right?

WRONG!!! The fact of the matter is, I'm no different from you. I like to joke around, laugh out loud, enjoy life, and talk about everything that's going on in the world. Just as you do. Where we differ is, I'm incarcerated and you're not.

This has been my life since the day of my arrest, on Sept. 13th, 1998.

Yet, dispite all this passage of time, I couldn't tell you that I'm "THIS" - "THAT" or the "OTHER" because with each passing and changing day, so do I change. What I can tell you is that I'm a genuine, humorous, and realistic man.
Who, after having lived life from this perspective, has realized that life is the strangest thing, because opportunities always present themselves, and while we focus on other things that have no true meaning. Those special opportunities slip pass us... Let us explore this particular opportunity, who knows what it holds? Don't let this one pass by....
